7 Tips for Greater Winter Curb Appeal

By on July 1, 2015

Healthy green grass and lush landscaping can do a lot to increase the curb appeal of a home in the warmer months. But what happens when the temperature dips, the lawn dies and the leaves fall off the trees?

Don’t let winter kill the curb appeal of your house or your listings! Here are some easy and inexpensive things you can do to spruce the outside of your house up and make it feel welcoming, no matter how blustery it is outside.

Scrub it up

It’s a big, dirty job, but someone has to do it. Washing a home to remove dirt, grime, spider webs and other yucky stuff can take years off a tired-looking residence. You can hire a company to do it for you… or bribe your friends with pizza and beverages. Warm, soapy water and a long-handled brush is all you need. Don’t forget the windows!

Paint the front door

A fresh coat of paint on the front door is a welcome addition to most properties, residential or commercial. Give any listing a facelift by choosing a color that works with the exterior paint job and the surrounding landscaping elements.

Add a festive touch

Hang a seasonal wreath or flag near your front entrance for an inviting and welcoming look.

Update your mailbox

A new mailbox can draw the eye and make a home look well-maintained. Although the wacky ones are memorable, stick to something classic that compliments the architecture of the house. In search of inspiration? Houzz has some great mailbox ideas.

Adjust the lighting

Check the bulbs in your outdoor lighting to make sure they are working. Prospects may drive by at any time of the day, so we recommend putting your outdoor lights on a timer so they switch on at dusk, even if you’re not home yet.
